Center House is excited to announce that a new smoking cessation program has begun.   Helene Long, CTTS, Tobaco Treatment Specialist and Program Manager of the St. Barnabus Behavioral Health Institute for Prevention will be providing a six week smoking cessation group and one-on one counseling for our residents.   A number of residents have chosen to participate.    This is a great opportunity and we are grateful to have Helene join us here at Center House.

4th of July is fast approaching and many residents are hosting visitors and guests for the Holiday weekend.  The staff and volunteers at Center House and The Center in Asbury Park would like to wish residents a safe and enjoyable 4th of July.    And a quick update on the Center House Resident Garden!    The Resident Garden in the Center House Courtyard has grown with gusto and has produced the largest and most abundant plants I have seen.    Congrats to all of the residents who have worked to make the Garden a success!

Summer is rolling along at Center House.   And with summer, comes the opportunity for outdoor activities.   Residents have cleared out an area in the Center House courtyard and have worked together to plan a vegetable garden.   The garden will feature a wide-array of vegetables and fruits of which residents can enjoy.

What fun we had yesterday at The Jersey Shore AIDS Walk 2010!  Thank you to everyone who turned out to "Walk for Friends".   It was a great sunny day in Asbury Park as folks gathered to register at Bradley Park in front of Convention Hall.   Walkers left Bradley Park enroute south along the famed Asbury Park Boardwalk through the Casino and over to Ocean Grove.   The Walk continued up Main Street in Ocean Grove and south across New Jersey Avenue directly across the Wesley Lake Bridge into downtown Asbury Park's historic Press Plaza and west onto Cookman Avenue.   The Walk continued south along Asbury Park's Main Street and finaly east on 5th Avenue finishing up back in Bradley Park in front of Convention Hall.   Residents of Center House and members of Pilgrim Baptist Church volunteered to staff the water stops along the route.   94.3 - The Point radio station was on hand thanks to our friend and Facebook organizer for The Walk, Fred Fornicola of Premiere Personal Fitness.   As we gathered after the Walk at Bradley Park, I spoke with many supporters of The Center who expressed how much fun it was to support a great cause and at the same time get healthy excercise in the sun.  Serveral folks also made a special effort to acknowledged all of the good work that The Center does.   Thank you!

The Center's annual fund-raising event "Center a la Carte" was held this past Friday night at Convention Hall on Asbury Park's famous Boardwalk.   It was truly an amazing evening!   Numerous Jersey Shore restaurants provided delicious food and drink while music, beautiful lighting and gorgeous table decorations added to the festive atmopshere.  Historic Convention Hall was filled with hundreds of happy guests who turned out to support The Center in Asbury Park.   It was an exciting evening!    A special thanks to all who supported The Center and to those volunteers and staff who organized this wonderful evening!
